Potion Book

Recently a friend of mine and I decided to do a craft night. She is super crafty, like I mean SUPER crafty!! Not only that but she is like SUPER kind, SUPER awesome and like SUPER everything. Lucky huh!! I mean who doesn't want a friend like this in your life.

So back to the Potion Book.... Tiffany told me about a potion book that she had made with some friends previously and I knew I needed one. I mean I LOVE Halloween. I am not sure why. Maybe because it is the start to the holiday season, but regardless of the reason I always go way over board for Halloween. I love it so much. Anyway. Tiffany has created these very cool pages that you can print so you can make your own Potion Book. Here is what we did!

To start you will need an old book, like a dictionary. I found mine at a thrift store for 25 cents, bargain!! The pages that you will print are 8.5 x 11 so you will need you book to be about that size.

I wanted my book to look aged so I took a water bottle and sprayed and crumpled random pages. I did this to a lot of the pages to be honest. I also burned some of the edges of my book. I then took a brown ink pad and rubbed that over the edges of the pages so that it looked dirty and very used.

To attache the pages I used modge podge. I opened the book to the middle or somewhere near the middle and put mode modge podge on each page. I did crumple the pages just a little before I put them in to make them look aged and used too.

Here are what the pages look like. Aren't they so awesome!!

Lastly we glued a thick black ribbon to the inside of the book with hot glue. I glues it behind the binding of the book so it looked like it was made that way.

This book sits on an end table in my formal living room. I keep it open to the potion pages all October so there is no need to worry about what the cover of the book looks like. No one sees it :)

Here is a link to my friend Tiffany's blog and the pages that you will need to make your own book. I would love to see what you create if you make one yourself. Enjoy!

Happy Halloween Swag

I love this time of year and making loads of crafts. I have so many things on the go at the moment and I want to get them all done ASAP so that I can get to display them before the end of the Halloween season.

So craft Number 1 is a Halloween Swag. I just wanted something cute to hang across my mantle piece. and here is what I came up with:

This was so simple to make. I found some paper mache letters at the local craft shop. I just painted them black and orange and then glued them to a piece of orange ribbon. I also found some cute Halloween stickers that I put on some of the letters too. It was so simple and it looks really cute on my mantle.

Like I said I have loads more crafts on the go, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas things. So keep watching for more.

Halloween Advent

So I found this idea here http://www.howdoesshe.com/ under halloween crafts. It is so easy to make. I went to Home Depot and had them cut me a 4x4x8 into 4x4 and 4x8 then I picked out halloween paper. First I sanded down the blocks so they were smooth and then I modge podged the cute halloween paper to the wood. Then I used my slice die cut machine to cut out the letters and the numbers! It turned out so cute I just love it!!

Pumpkin Bread

Today at church we had a "Munch and Mingle" I decided to make pumpkin bread. I mean it is nearly October. I think this time of year is all about the pumpkin. Everyone absolutely loved this recipe and was asking for it. So not only for members of my ward who look at this blog but for everyone else out there who would like a really GREAT Pumpkin bread recipe this is for you!

Pumpkin Bread

4 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
2/3 c. water
3 c. Sugar
3 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Cinnamon
2 tsp Nutmeg
1/2 tsp Ginger
1 tsp ground cloves

Preheat Over to 350F or 175C. Grease and flour three 7x3inch bread pans

In a large bowl mix together the Pumpkin, Eggs, Oil, Water and Sugar until well blended. Sift all the dry ingredients together and then mix with the wet ingredients. Por into pepared bread pans.

Bake for 50 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

*Note ifyou cant get tins of pumpkin you can make this very simple and you can use pumpkin or butternut squash. Simple boil the flesh of either fruit and mash*

Paper Pumpkin Lantern

I found this idea on Nuture Mama, and thought it would be a great craft to do with the kids during half term this week! It's really easy, and really effective, so heres how....
1. I used orange construction paper and then used a paper cutter to make a pile of orange strips that were 1" wide by 12" tall. I then took 10 strips of paper, a push pin and two paper fasteners. I then stacked the strips and used the push pin to help make a hole in each end through all the layers.2. The pin is removed and replaced by the paper fastener. It's best to push it through just a couple of layers at a time.3. The paper fastener legs are opened and the strips are adjusted around each pin until they are equally spaced apart and a globe shape takes place.4. Black eyes and mouth are cut out and glued on with a glue stick. A string of yarn may be tied to one end.

Halloween Candy Bar Wrappers

Found these creative Halloween candy bar wrappers on Skip To My Lou.

For the mummy... glue a set of googly eyes on the wrapper. Then take white crepe paper and wrap your chocolate bar as many times as you want. I then folded up the edges some to give it that ruffled look.

For the bat... I printed the template out at 60% because I was using smaller chocolate bars. Again, glue a set of googly eyes on. Tape your chocolate bar inside on the middle and use a festive sticker to keep shut.

**TIP** many years ago I learned that you cannot glue googly eyes with a hot glue gun! the black part of the eye melts to the white part and they no longer wiggle. so use tacky glue ;)

Pumpkin Centerpiece

I bought a foam pumpkin. Cut a hole in the top and filled with fall silk flowers from the dollar store. easy. cheap. and won't die in a few days ;)

Lollipop Ghosts

I know that everyone has probably done these at some point in their lives but I thought I would list them here just for anyone who hasnt. A friend and I are having a Halloween party for our children and 32 others. Ok so its a bit more than a party 32 children is LOADS! For the invitations I have made one of these for each child and then attached the invite to them. They turned out cute and will get the children into the Halloween Frame of mind!

These are the only things you need to make a Lollipop Ghost. Oh yeah plus a black marker!

At this point all you need to do it tie the tissue onto the lollipop and draw a cute face on it. See now wasnt that simple!!

Paper Bag Pumpkins

I found these on Kaboose.com I thought they are so cute and a really fantastic idea for Halloween treat bags. A friend and I are planning a Halloween party for about 32 of us and our friends children. I thought these would be adorable for the treat bags. Here is the how to:

What you'll need:

* 1 brown paper lunch bag
* Acrylic paint: orange and leaf green
* Paintbrush
* ¼ sheet brown construction paper
* 6- 12” pieces of green raffia
* Scissors

How to make it:

1. Paint the outside of the lunch bag with orange paint.
2. Paint the inside, top portion of the bag with leaf green paint. (See photo.)
3. Paint a second coat of orange paint on the bag, only this time, paint the top outside portion with the leaf green-colored paint.
4. When paint is completely dry, fringe the green section of the bag with your scissors, strips should be approximately ½” – 1” wide.
5. Fill bag with crumpled newspaper (if using as a decoration) or candy and treats.
6. Gather top of bag with your hand and tie a piece of raffia around it, just below the green section.
7. Continue tying pieces of green raffia around the neck of the bag until all of it has been used.
8. Cut a 1.5” wide strip of brown construction paper and roll up into a tube. Insert the tube of paper into the center of the green portion of the bag as the stem. If these bags are used as decoration, you can glue the stem in place.

I have been trying to get a few Halloween Crafts sorted out in time for the 1st of October. Yesterday I made this Halloween Wreath out of some spare material I had and a wire coat hanger. What do you think? I was so simple and so much fun! I just cut the material into strips and tied them onto the hanger. Thats it! So Fun and SO SIMPLE!
